Under this theme, the aim is to adopt a holistic approach to the processes of developing, evaluating, implementing and monitoring artificial intelligence systems in healthcare. The “Holistic AI” approach refers to the evaluation of artificial intelligence systems not merely at the algorithmic level, but in conjunction with the data lifecycle, clinical decision-making processes, human factors, ethical principles, regulation, organisational culture, security, privacy and their impact on health outcomes.
In particular, the rapid proliferation of generative artificial intelligence and large language models in the healthcare sector has made issues such as accuracy, reliability, hallucination, patient privacy, clinical liability, explainability and human oversight even more critical. Current approaches to AI governance also highlight the importance of continuous monitoring, risk management, auditability and compliance processes in high-risk sectors such as healthcare.
